Dear PIER Members,

We look forward to seeing many of you at our next PIER meeting on October 19 with government representatives. This is an opportunity for you to meet representatives from our local CBP, ICE, SEVP and Department of State office. Last month we sent out a call for questions and received a few responses. Thank you to our members who submitted questions. Details about the meeting are on our PIER website along with the agenda.

·        Paid parking is available in nearby parking garages for a fee of about $10.00.





PIER Membership and Dues Payment

If you have not yet registered to become a member for the 2015-2016 school year, it is not too late. Please click on this link to fill out the 2015-2016 membership form on Survey Monkey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TPPF378. The membership is per person, not institution.

PIER offers three options to pay your membership dues.
  1. PAYPAL: (You will receive an email from PayPal with full instructions, a PayPal account is not necessary to make payment)
  2. CREDIT CARD: Pay in person at the December 3, 2015 meeting.
  3. CHECK: Make checks payable to PIER. Mail checks to PIER treasurer, Martha Delgadillo  1012 Prospect St. Suite 200, La Jolla, CA 92037 or pay in person at the December 3, 2015 meeting  
Payment is due no later than December 3, 2015. PIER charges a $5.00 late fee for dues received after December 3, 2015. Thank you for your understanding.
The PIER membership for 2015-2016 ends June 30, 2016. We look forward to having you as a PIER member.

STEM OPT Rule

On October 5, DHS submitted the STEM OPT rule to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review. You can find the link here https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2015-26395.pdf  NAFSA has a STEM OPT resource page http://www.nafsa.org/Content.aspx?id=49962 with a timeline and resources related to this important case. You can be an advocate for your students and campus regarding STEM OPT. The website Connecting Our World has advocacy resources for international educators http://www.connectingourworld.org/.

English USA – Call for Session and Poster Proposals

English USA extended the deadline to submit a session or proposal for their conference to October 12. The conference will be in Monterey, California January 21 to 22, 2016. More details on their website http://englishusa.org/professional-development/professional-development-conference
