Message from the PIER Chair
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your PIER Chair for two years. It has been a pleasure meeting new and established members and working to share our knowledge in the field of international education. I look forward to the future of PIER and its value to international student and scholar educators in the San Diego area. I encourage all members to volunteer for the PIER board as it is a great opportunity to network with your colleagues, present, engage in public speaking, interact with government officials, gain leadership skills and experience that you may not find in your current employer.
I would like to take this time to thank the outgoing PIER Board for their work and dedication who have served several years on the board. Treasurer Martha Delgadillo, Membership Coordinator Lykai Johnson and PIER Chair Elect Eric Abutin. Your time, enthusiasm and leadership have helped tremendously. I wish you the best in your future and look forward to seeing you at the PIER meetings. I would like to welcome the incoming PIER Board members Rhona Reyes, University of San Diego – PIER Chair Elect; Vanessa Fennell, Stafford House – PIER Treasurer; Mia Scavone, MiraCosta College – PIER Membership Coordinator. We are thrilled to have these members volunteer their time and learn from their experience to continue to keep PIER as a valuable resource for the San Diego international educator community.

Call for Volunteers at the NAFSA Region XII Annual Conference
October 31 – November 4, 2016
Would you like to become more involved in NAFSA Region XII? Volunteering is a great way to network while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the conference and learning about various regional leadership positions. If you have 2 or more hours to spare during the conference, we welcome your help to come assist in supporting the regional conference. NAFSA Region XII SoCal District Training Day August 10
The NAFSA SoCal District Team announces an upcoming Training Day! Two NAFSA CEP (Core Education Program) Workshops will be offered: “F-1 Student Advising for Beginners” & “F-1 Student Advising – Intermediate.” Both workshops will run concurrently from 8:00am to 5:15pm. Participants may choose one or the other (not both!). For more information on the workshops, please see descriptions on the NAFSA CEP Website.

NAFSA 2017 Annual Conference & Expo Los Angeles on May 28 – June 2, 2017
Session, Workshop of Post Proposal Submissions
Do you want to share your knowledge with your colleagues? If you are new or experienced in the field of international education, a session, workshop or poster is a great opportunity to give back to the international education community.
NAFSA’s 2017 Annual Conference and Expo will be held in Los Angeles. The theme for this conference is Expanding Community, Strengthening Connections, and will celebrate the richness of diverse communities and explore the forces that strengthen (or undermine) connection. Attendees are invited to submit proposals and share their innovative ideas and best practices through sessions, workshops, and posters. Session or Workshop Proposal Deadline: August 8 | Poster Proposal Deadline: December 12. Learn more about how to submit a proposal and resources on the NAFSA website.
